Christos Karydis

Christos Karydis he recently finishes his PhD research in Preventive Conservation & History of the Athonian ecclesiastical textiles in the University of Lincoln following studies at the Textile Conservation Centre, University of Southampton. He is appointed as a principal tutor of preventive conservation of textiles by the Aristotle University of Thessalonica, Greece. He holds an MA in Preventive Conservation at the University of Northumbria and a BA (Hons) in Conservation and Restoration from De Montfort University. Before his first degree he studied conservation of organic materials, museum studies, iconography and Byzantine art in Athens. He has worked as a conservator for the Greek Ministry of Culture and in several churches and monasteries in Jerusalem, Constantinople, Colombia, Spain, UK and Greece. He has participated in documentation of artworks in the Holy Mountain of Athos- Greece with the Institute of Byzantine Studies- National Greek Research Foundation. He is representative of the ICOMOS-Greek Group in the International Scientific committee of education and prevention of damages. He is the author of the first book of preventive conservation of textiles written in Greek and chief editor of the web site of the Institute Saint Maximos (Athens).
